Forum Nokia provides a number of different documents on binary and source compatibility between S60 platform releases and on porting between software for devices running different platform release versions.
From S60 3rd Edition onwards there is a compatibility promise. It means that backward compatibility is maintained and only controlled breaks are allowed to happen.
For more information on compatibility across the S60 platform, see the Forum Nokia document S60 Platform: Source and Binary Compatibility. It provides general information on compatibility and breaks, and provides information on compatibility issues between different S60 releases.
For more information on the features provided by different S60 releases, see Forum Nokia's Differences in Features documents.
S60 2nd/3rd Edition: Differences in Features provides information on features differences between S60 releases from 2nd Edition to 3rd Edition.
Series 60 Platform 1st and 2nd Edition: Differences in Features presents new features in 2nd Edition compared to 1st Edition and explains also the changes made to 2nd Edition compared to 1st Edition.
Porting to S60 3rd Edition can be made from different platforms. The Forum Nokia documents listed below give information on how this is done:
