The configuration information for initializing connections in a mobile device is stored in a database on the device. Each entry in the database is called an access point. The term Internet Access Point (IAP) is also used. The access point identifies the physical connection type and the associated parameters, such as an address for the connection, and other general settings, such as username and password. Devices often contain multiple access points for different services and from different providers.
Access point settings are usually provided by the service provider in an SMS message, after which the S60 platform takes care of storing the settings. When your application makes a network or WLAN connection, you need to access the underlying access point functionality for the appropriate session initiation information if a connection is not already open. Some users may set a default access point. Mobile device users often find it difficult to correctly enter access point information.
