FFXI: Merit Points "0","What are Merit Points?" "1","How to Use Merit Points" "3","How to Accumulate Merit Points" "7","How to Check Limit and Merit Point Totals " "9","Distributing Merit Points" "17","Effects of Raised Attributes" &pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3;&image=ng01;What are Merit Points?&style; &style=spacer01; &style;  Once a player has reached level 75, he/she will have the option to earn "limit points" when defeating enemies. 10,000 of these limit points are then exchanged for one "merit point." Merit points are a type of currency used to "buy" extra enhancements for players whose main jobs have reached the level cap. &pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3;&image=ng01;How to Use Merit Points&style; &style=spacer01; &style;  By speaking to the Nomad Moogle located in the Ru'Lude Gardens, players who have reached level 75 can receive a special key item that will grant access to a new button under "Status" under the main menu. (This menu can only be accessed when a player's current main job is level 75 or above.) &pre=01; Players can use this new menu to view their current limit point/merit point totals, switch between EXP and limit point accumulation, and use merit points to enhance their abilities. &style=spacer01; &style; &style=Ty15;&li= *;Players can only enhance their abilities in Mog Houses or Rent-a-Rooms.&li; &pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3;&image=ng01;How to Accumulate Merit Points&style; &style=spacer01; &style; &li= ;When a player has reached the maximum EXP amount (51,500) after reaching level 90, he/she will automatically begin accumulating limit points when fighting monsters that are at least "easy prey." However, players can begin collecting limit points before reaching the maximum EXP amount by switching to the proper mode ("Mode Switch") within the merit points menu, located under "Status" in the main menu.&li; &pre=01;&style=Ty15; *When a player is eligible to begin collecting limit points, his/her main job and level will be displayed in blue in the status window.&style; &pre=01; Once a player has collected 10,000 limit points, the points will automatically be exchanged for a single merit point.  Switching to "limit point accumulation mode" affects all jobs that have reached at least level 75. It is not necessary to switch modes for each job.  If a player is knocked out while in limit point accumulation mode, he/she will lose EXP as normal. To regain that EXP, the player must switch to "EXP accumulation mode" in his/her Mog House before fighting. However, if a player drops to level 74 as a result of being KO'd, he/she will automatically be switched back to EXP accumulation mode until reaching level 75 once again. &pre=01; All limit, merit, and experience points are saved internally. Switching between limit point and EXP accumulation modes does not result in a loss of any point types. EXP earned from items (a page from the "Dragon Chronicles," etc.) cannot be converted into limit points. If a player uses one of these items after accumulating the maximum amount of EXP at level 75, the item will have no effect. &pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3;&image=ng01;How to Check Limit and Merit Point Totals&style; &style=spacer01; &style;  After a player has received the special key item from the Ru'Lude Nomad Moogle, he/she will be able to view current limit and merit point totals in the status window by selecting the "Merit Points" button from the status menu. &pre=01; Also, after each battle, a message informing the player how many limit points he/she earned will appear in the message window. &style=spacer03; &style; &style=spacer03; &style; &style=spacer03; &style; &style=spacer03; &style; &style=spacer03; &style; &style=spacer03; &style;  The maximum number of merit points a player can stock is 20. Any merit points earned after accumulating this amount will be lost. &pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3;&image=ng01;Distributing Merit Points&style; &style=spacer01; &style;  Areas that can be adjusted using merit points are as follows: &style=spacer01; &style;  [HP/MP]   Max HP / Max MP &style=spacer01; &style;  [Attributes]   STR / DEX / VIT / AGI / INT / MND / CHR &style=spacer01; &style; [Other Skills] Enmity Increase / Enmity Decrease / Critical Hit Rate / Enemy Critical Hit Rate / Spell Interruption Rate &pre=01; &style=Ty15_2; *Any increase in the abilities mentioned above will affect all jobs possessed by the character. &pre=01; &style=Ty15_2;*In order to enhance a job using merit points, it must be   at level 75 and set as your main job.&style; &style=spacer01; &style;  &style=Ty15_2;*After acquiring a Group 2 enhancement, you must have   its corresponding job set as your main job and raised to   level 75 or higher in order for it to take effect.&style; &style=spacer02; &style;  The attributes in each of the above categories can only be  raised a limited number of times. This is known as a  "combination." Group 1 and Group 2 are each treated as  separate subcategories, and the maximum value may differ  between groups. &pre=01;&li= ;For example, the attributes in the “HP/MP” category can be increased a combination of 12 times. Therefore, combinations such as the following are possible: HP Max +12 / MP Max +0 HP Max +6 / MP Max +6 However, a combination such as [HP Max +12 / MP Max +12] would be impossible. The combination limits for each of the five categories can be viewed in the merit point window. Attributes raised using merit points can be lowered. &pre=01; However, lowering an attribute results in the loss of the  merit point(s) used in raising it.  Also, the number of merit points required to raise a certain  skill or attribute varies between categories, and changes  after raising those attributes.  There are also limits to the number of times one attribute  can be raised. &pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3;&image=ng01;Effects of Raised Attributes&style; &style=spacer01; &style; &li= ;The effect of attributes raised using merit points varies with the level of a player's current main job. The higher the level, the more influence the changes will have on a player's overall performance. Furthermore, effects based on job-specific attributes will only come into effect when the job to which the ability pertains is set as the main job, and the main job level is 75 or above.&li; &pre=01;&li= ;Example: When spending merit points on the white mage attribute "Regen Effect," the healing effect of Regen spells will be enhanced when the main job is set to white mage 75 or above. This effect will not occur when white mage is set as a support job, or the main job level is less than 75 due to level restrictions.&li;
