FFXI: Fishing
&pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3;&image=ng01;Fishing&style;
&style=spacer01; &style;
In FINAL FANTASY XI, you can equip
a fishing rod in your ranged
weapon slot and bait in your
ammunition slot, allowing you to
enjoy the sport of fishing in
selected areas (such as oceans,
rivers, and lakes).
Once you have equipped a rod and some bait, you can
begin by selecting "Fish" from the action command menu
in areas where the option is available.
&pre=01; &style=Tk15w_3;Fishing Actions&style;
&style=spacer01; &style;
When something catches the hook while
fishing, the rod will be pulled sharply
to the left or right. While keeping an eye on the target
window that displays the stamina of the "fish," press the 4
and 6 keys on the numeric keypad, or move the Left control
stick, in the opposite direction of the fishing rod's
movement. Performing this action correctly will deplete the
stamina of the fish. The fish will recover stamina if the
action is performed incorrectly. Players in the surrounding
area will appear semi-transparent while pulling in a catch.
&pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3; Reeling in Your Catch&style;
&style=spacer01; &style;
You can reel in your catch by pressing the Confirm button
or Enter key.
The probability of success is determined by the fish's
remaining stamina. Players with high fishing skill may be
able to reel in a fish whose stamina has not been fully
depleted, but the more stamina a fish has remaining, the
easier it will be to lose your catch.
&pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3; Canceling Fishing&style;
&style=spacer01; &style;
When faced with a challenge beyond your ability or a fish
that you don't wish to catch, you may find it preferable to
simply cancel and try again.
You can cancel the act of fishing at any time by pressing
[Cancel / Esc].
You will use your bait, with the exception of lures, but
your rod will not break.
&pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3; Types of Fishing Rods&style;
&style=spacer01; &style;
Fishing rods are made from either wood or composite
materials. Each type has certain strengths and weaknesses.
&style=spacer01; &style;
[Wood]
Flexible and efficient at depleting stamina, but lacking in
durability.
&style=spacer01; &style;
[Composite Materials]
Highly durable and can keep a catch on the line for an
extended amount of time, but inefficient at depleting
stamina.
&pre=01; -Wooden Rods
Willow fishing rod, yew fishing rod, bamboo fishing rod,
fastwater fishing rod, Tarutaru fishing rod, clothespole,
Mithran fishing rod
&style=spacer01; &style;
-Rods Made from Composite Materials

fishing rod, composite fishing rod

&style=spacer01; &style;
When something catches the hook, a message will display
indicating the character's "feeling" about the catch.
&style=Tb15b;&li= ;Small fish: "Something caught the hook!"
Large fish: "Something caught the hook!!!"
Non-fish targets: "You feel something pulling at your line."
Monsters: "Something clamps onto your line ferociously!"&style;&li;
&pre=01;&style=Tk15w_3; Critical bites&style;
&style=spacer01; &style;
&li= ;Players with fishing skill surpassing the rank of their target will register a critical bite, and be rewarded with advance knowledge as to the identity of their prey.
Ex.: (When scoring a critical bite against a black sole)
&style=spacer01; &style;
&style=Tb15b;"Something caught the hook! Your keen angler's senses tell you that this is the pull of a black sole!"&style;&li;&li;
