Supporting a selection

Users have several options for selecting objects on the desktop. A user might position the pointer over an object, such as a folder icon, and click once to select. A user might also extend a selection of objects by holding down the Alt key and clicking the mouse button over additional objects. (A user can "deselect" objects in a similar manner.) In addition, a user might choose to select a range of objects by dragging through them.

To support these actions and to provide the necessary user feedback, the following events occur.
