CommonPoint menus

This section describes the CommonPoint menus and menu items:

Square brackets [] indicate items that change on context. The name of the current object replaces the square brackets, providing feedback to the user.
Separators (horizontal bars) can be used for grouping menu items.

Services menu

Services provides access to global services such as printing, and in later releases, faxing, mail, and help. When multiple Place representations are supported, the items on the Services menu are those that span Place representations.

At present, Services provides access to commands that apply to several contexts. This prevents repetition of menu items, instead of having Print (and any related options) appear on two or three menus, printing services are centralized on the Services menu.

At this time, printing and debugging are the only available services. The Print menu item currently allows users to print one copy of the current document. For the current release, printing to most PostScript` printers is supported.

Document menu

Document provides access to commands that apply to the active container.

About [ ] displays the about box for the specified item.
Close closes the active container, its main window, and any associated windows.

Edit menu

Edit provides access to commands--such as Cut, Copy, and Paste--for changing the contents of the current selection. The exact behavior of Edit menu commands is specific to the selected data type.

Undo reverses the most recent operation.
Redo re-reverses the most recent undo.
Cut removes the current selection and puts it on the clipboard, replacing any previous contents.
Copy copies the current selection and puts it on the clipboard, replacing any previous contents.
Copy Active Frame as Link identifies the active frame as the source for a link.
Paste inserts the clipboard contents in the active frame. The clipboard contents remain unchanged.

As a developer, you determine how Paste behaves. Depending on the active frame, the pasted contents can be absorbed or embedded. Typically, the contents are absorbed for like data types and embedded for dissimilar types
of data.

Paste Frame as Link establishes the destination for the link and places the linked data.
Update Link refreshes the data in the link destination so that it reflects updates to the source.
Delete removes the current selection without using the clipboard.
SelectAll selects all the data in the currently active frame, including any embedded frames. Select All does not select the internal contents of the embedded frames.
Show Links toggles between making all links visible and hiding all links.

Window menu

The Window menu provides access to controls for the currently active window and to commands for manipulating window groups. For information on windows, see Chapter 4.

File menu

The File menu provides access to commands that apply to files, such as creating stationery and opening presentation.

Make New creates a new document from the selected stationery.
Make Stationery creates a stationery from the selected presentation.
Open Presentation opens the selected presentation.
Open Shared opens shared documents.
Recent Shared Documents lists and provides access to recently opened shared documents.

Special menu

The Special menu provides access to commands that affect the entire Workspace.

Move to Trash transfers the current selection to the Trash. The selection remains there until the Trash is emptied.
Empty Trash deletes items that have been moved to the trash.
Shut Down quits all programs and shuts down the CommonPoint application system.

To empty the Trash, the user first selects the Trash icon. Move to Trash then changes to Empty Trash so the user can choose it. This helps prevent the user from accidentally disposing of data.

Filter menu

The Filter menu provides access to commands that determine what icons are displayed in the Workspace.

Show All displays all icons.
Show Folders displays only the folder icons.
Show Stationery displays only the stationery icons.
Show Documents displays only the document icons.

Clean Up

The Clean Up menu provides access to commands that organize the icons in the Workspace.

By Name arranges the icons in the Workspace alphabetically by name.
