Guide to OS Services
OS Services describes services of the CommonPoint application system that provide an interface to operations that are commonly handled by an operating system.
OS Services describes how to use:
- Kernel Services - services that provide an interface to the host operating system's capabilities, including multitasking, scheduling, and task synchronization.
- Runtime Services - services that provide basic capabilities such as exception handling and free-store management.
- System Shutdown - the system-wide protocol for orderly shutdown of applications and other programs.
- Communications Access - the general thread-to-thread communications API, comprised of the Service Access framework and the Message Streams classes.
- File System interface - the high-level interface to the file system classes that you use to manage files, directories, and volumes.
- Time Services - services that provide a consistent hardware-independent model for managing time abstractions and different time sources.
