Paginated page folios

A paginated page folio is a specific example of a page folio. The paginated page folio represents a large canvas area partitioned into pages. It contains page-sized tiles arranged in a two dimensional array with optional borders and gaps. It can be used as a pagination aid when pagination is required in a model presentation, but it does not handle widowed or orphaned text or re-flow the document.

TBookPageFolio is a type of paginated page folio that divides a given work area into pages with surrounding margins or gaps between pages. Word processors commonly use this approach. TBookPageFolio creates iterators that are instances of TPaginatedPageIterator.


Tiled page folios

Another possible type of paginated page folio is a tiled page folio. A tiled page folio divides a given work area into pages with no surrounding margins or gaps between pages.

The MGraphic that the folio subdivides is of an arbitrary size, usually causing portions of whole pages to exist along the right and bottom edges. Spreadsheets or drawing programs commonly use this approach.


Compound page folios

A compound page folio represents a collection of page folios. You can use compound page folios to embed one folio in another. There is no limit to the number of folios that can be nested. You can add any folio to a compound folio, including other compound folios.

You can use compound page folios to represent documents that have more than one format per physical sheet of output. This can be used for such things as letters and envelopes, transparencies and plain paper, or 1-up and 2-up variations. (See "Setting page characteristics" on page 180.)
