Print job descriptions

TPrintJobDescription instances encapsulate the data associated with printing. You must have a print job description to print. The description identifies a particular printing request and distinguishes it from other print requests. It is only associated with a job while the job is being printed. The print job description records the printing choices related to the folio, including the number of copies, banner pages, and accounting information. If these options are important to the folio makeup, then you should store the print job description with the folio.

A print job description comprises a device job description associated with the printer and a client job description associated with the folio.

The client job description specifies the number of copies, cover page or end page, and page range. The device job description specifies the target printer, type of document finishing (staples, collations, print quality), resolution, and paper tray selection. You can use the default client job description, but you must get a device job description from the target printer.

The client job description and the device job description are independent so that program developers and printer handler developers can extend the print job description independently. Both have control over print-time customization, but they do not conflict with the other's customization.
