How the chapters are organized

Each of the chapters in this book discusses one of the documented samples and follows a standard structure containing these sections (as applicable).

Chapter introduction provides a brief description of a program including its end-user features.

High-level architecture describes how the components of a program are divided into specific subsystems. In addition, this section lists the CommonPoint frameworks and class libraries that comprise these subsystems.

Subsystem description describes the components of a particular subsystem and explains how it operates.

Design notes briefly describe architectural considerations to help you understand the design of an individual subsystem.

Utility classes explains how additional classes are used to supplement the subsystems.

Interesting mechanisms illustrates object interactions or mechanisms that support program functionality.

Extensions provides suggestions for extending a program to support additional features.

At the end of this book, you'll find an appendix that summarizes key program mechanisms or "tasks" that are accomplished in each of the sample programs described in this book.
