The code and documentation

There is a lot more to the documented samples than what's in this book.

Headers and source files The program code is available online in source form. Explore the code using the SNiFF+(TM) browser.
Class and member function descriptions This documentation tersely describes the purpose and use of sample-owned classes and member functions. Descriptions are in the same place as the code, in a documentation subdirectory. View the descriptions with the SNiFF+ browser.
Code comments Comments in the code organize class interfaces and clarify member function implementations.
Design documentation This documentation--which makes up this book--provides graphical descriptions of program architectures and captures key design decisions. The documentation also supports task-oriented entry, explaining key program mechanisms and pointing to the code for solutions to many Taligent programming tasks. (You might even want to start your exploration of the samples from Appendix A, "Mechanism Grab Bag" at the back of this book.)

Much of the documentation describes a program's domain-specific code, providing a rich context for seeing Taligent frameworks and classes in use.

To use this material, you must have some experience programming in the CommonPoint application system and you should have read relevant sections of the CommonPoint developer guides. These publications are the place to go when you are getting started and when you need an in-depth explanation of the CommonPoint application system.
