Use a text entry field when the information required is open-ended and cannot always be selected from a predetermined list. Examples of open-ended information include document names and user names.
When you implement a text entry field, the CommonPoint application system automatically lays it out for you. You supply a brief identifying label for the text entry field, such as User Name. The label is placed above or to the left of the field.
When the user clicks to select the text entry field, an insertion point appears to indicate the field is ready for input. The user enters the requested information. The insertion point remains at the end of the user's entry until the user positions the insertion point elsewhere. (In the current release, the insertion point does not blink.)
