Localizing a presentation

The locale hierarchy lets you associate multiple languages with a single object. This means that you can translate a presentation into multiple languages. When the program executes, it chooses a presentation based on the language of the locale preferred by the current end user.

When you create a new program, always archive the program's presentation at the appropriate language level of the locale hierarchy. Localizers can then create localized presentations for other languages in the locale hierarchy. Other localized presentations can be accessed by users with other language preferences. If no presentation is available for a particular language, the program is presented in its original language.

This technique ensures that, through the locale hierarchy, an end user always has access to some version of the presentation no matter what locale is active. It also means that one translation can easily be shared. For example, if a localizer archives a translated presentation at the French language level, it can be used from any French-speaking locale in lower levels of the hierarchy.
