Guide to Text, Native Language Support, and Time Media

Text, Native Language Support, and Time Media is divided into two parts.

Part 1 describes the CommonPoint text system, the Text Editing framework, and the native language support services:

• The basic text system provides support for Unicode character encoding, transcoders for converting character data between Unicode and other character encoding systems, and structures for creating, storing, and manipulating styled text strings.
• The Line Layout system provides classes you use to create simple static text elements and gives you a fine level of control over the layout of single text lines.
• The Text Editing framework is an application framework that lets you create interactive text elements, ranging from simple dialogs to complex word-processing applications. This framework includes a number of convenience classes you can use directly to add editable text elements to your programs.
• The native language support services provide the mechanism for creating localized applications. You can create services that support a particular language or geographic region, and use the locale mechanism to take advantage of available resources to create internationalized applications.
