Presentation and Compound Document framework concepts

The Basic Document framework introduces the concept of a basic document--an application that can present and modify its self-contained data.

The Compound Document framework expands this to provide support for embedding differing types of data in a single compound document and for linking these documents with hypermedia mechanisms. The classes developed in the Compound Document framework enable you to create and manage these compound documents.

The Compound Document framework introduces many new classes. Of these new classes the five most significant are:

Compound documents
Document components
Models in detail
Integrating document components with documents
Using selections
Mixins and command suites
Using commands with selections
Anchor markers and links
Document sharing--synchronous collaboration
Notifications and interests
Attributes and styles
Saving data
Data storage
Class structure of the Compound Document framework
Knowledge flow between the major class families
