2-D images

A rich set of image types descend from TImage to provide a wide selection of classes to achieve interesting visual effects using images and color. The color and opacity information in the attribute bundle is mapped (transferred) to the image pixels according to the image type and transfer mode. The image types, color information, opacity values, and the default source over transfer mode are described in this chapter. See Chapter 7 for more information on the source over transfer mode, the many other transfer modes, and image sampling settings in the attribute bundle.

To achieve device independence, the image is interpolated (enlarged) or decimated (shrunk) so that it draws the same size in inches on any monitor without aliasing. The image sampling settings let you control the appearance of the image when it has been interpolated or decimated and lets you make trade-offs between performance and rendered appearance. The attribute bundle settings for images in combination with the image type give you a flexible and wide range of ways in which you can control the drawing time and rendered appearance of an image graphic.
