About the current release

The current release delivers the basic interface elements and conventions that you need to start building applications.

The Document framework implements the CommonPoint model of components, data linking, documents, and stationery. The CommonPoint Workspace, described in Chapter 3, extends the Document framework to support document launching and basic organizing and filtering of information. The User Interface framework provides the elements necessary to construct an application, including windows, controls, and menus. The Presentation framework ties it all together, providing applications with features such as printing, embedding, undo, and redo.

The next step for CommonPoint is to support the other primary user activities--customizing the user's tools and environment, finding and organizing information, and communicating and collaborating with others. The capabilities of the current frameworks are planned to be enhanced, while new frameworks, such as those for People elements, Place elements, and collaboration, are planned to be added.
