User actions: mouse and keyboard

The user interacts with this version of the CommonPoint application system through the mouse and keyboard. Read this chapter for descriptions of mouse and keyboard actions in the human interface.

NOTE In the current release, only one mouse button is supported. In future releases, support for other input devices is planned.

In CommonPoint, the primary goals for mouse and keyboard interaction are:

• Consistency with de facto standards. For example, the Macintosh" keyboard equivalents of Cut, Copy, and Paste are now used on Microsoft Windows` and N<sub>e</sub>XTSTEP`.
• Consistency across applications. Developers are encouraged to use the standard interactions described here.
• Consistency across hardware where possible, such as accommodating the Macintosh and PC keyboards.
