When a container gets filled with icons, it can be hard to find and select objects in it. The user can reduce the visual clutter of views by filtering, a process that shows only objects matching the specified type.
The user can filter the view of the desktop or of a folder to show only containers (folders), stationery, aliases, or documents. The user can also show all the objects in the container again.
- To filter the view of the desktop, the user clicks the desktop to make sure it is active and chooses an item from the Filter menu: Show Containers, Show Stationery, or Show Documents.
- To filter the view of an open folder, the user chooses the desired Filter menu item.
Only the objects that match the specified type are shown. Any other objects are collected in a single container.
To show all objects after getting a filtered view, the user chooses Show All from the Filter menu.
