text display
The Text Editing framework's display capabilities are provided by the underlying Line Layout system. The Line Layout classes work in conjunction with the Text Editing framework's text formatter:
- The formatter provides line-break algorithms and high-level paragraph layout.
- The Line Layout classes provide display capabilities at the individual line level and interpret the character and paragraph styling information.
When laying out text for display, both the character and style data are considered. The character's script determines the directionality of sequences of characters in that script, while the associated styling information determines the font, color, line spacing, and so on.
When you use the Text Editing framework to create word-processing applications, multilingual text display capability is already built in for you. You can also use the Line Layout classes directly to customize text layout behavior, or create your own formatting engine for use by the Text Editing framework.
