Multilingual text input

When you use the Text Editing framework classes, your documents automatically support multilingual text input. The system has a set of installed typing configurations, each one containing the necessary tools for inputting a particular script from a particular physical keyboard. These tools include:

End users can freely change between typing configurations, using multiple configurations in the course of creating or editing a single document. The natural language of input text is remembered, so that when an end user returns to a particular input area after using another typing configuration in another part of the document, the system activates the correct configuration for that language.

All the installed configurations are available to the end user at any time through the standard text editor menu. This means you do not have to create any escape-key sequences to allow the end user to toggle between virtual keyboards.

To support other languages, or to provide customized input, you can create new typing configurations and make them available for installation.

See Chapter 7, "Text input," for more information on typing configurations.
