Telephony concepts

In the Telephony system, you access handsets, lines, features, and calls through handles. The telephony objects and their handles are discussed in the following sections.

NOTE The audio data format standards for digital telephony are different from those typically used in multimedia applications. For example, voice data from an IDSN line is log-companded rather than linear, and it is digitized at 8 kHz instead of 22 kHz.
