Preface

A sample program is a great thing. It makes abstract concepts concrete and constrains limitless combinations of code elements to a single working arrangement. When a sample provides a representative solution to a programming task--such as establishing remote access to a data store--you can often apply the solution to your own work.

Sometimes though, sample code is not enough for you to form a correct mental model of a program's plan. Picking through the code takes a lot of time and it's hard to know where to start. Reconstructing the plan through debugging methods or mental simulation can be downright painful. A documented sample gives you a shortcut by describing how pieces of a program fit into the plan.

The sample programs documented in this book are intended to be used in conjunction with source code. The code for these sample programs is available online. These samples work with the CommonPoint` Application System version 1.0.0 for AIX".
